Highlands
From FunDenver -- the Denver, Colorado resource that anyone can edit!
"The Highlands" refers to an area of Denver immediately west of downtown consisting of the following two neighborhoods:
- Highland. The city government refers to this area as "Highland", although it is also commonly referred to as East Highlands, Lower Highlands, or LoHi. Highland is bounded by Federal Boulevard, 38th Avenue, Interstate 25, and 23rd Avenue.
- West Highland. The city government refers to this area as "West Highland", although it is mostly referred to as part of the Highlands. West Highland is bounded by Sheridan Boulevard, 38th Avenue, Federal Boulevard, and 29th Avenue.
As usual, the exact definitions of these neighborhood names depend largely on who you ask. Note that the Highlands does not refer to Highlands Ranch, a sprawling suburb roughly 15 miles south of downtown.
Commerce, dining, and nightlife in the Highlands revolve around the thriving Highlands Square commercial district at 32nd Avenue and Lowell Street. Other important commercial areas in the neighborhood include Federal Boulevard, Speer Boulevard, and the Upper 15th Street district.
