Use of FunDenver content
All text and images on FunDenver are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 2.5 license, unless otherwise noted. Any use of this material requires an attribution to the FunDenver web site. Usage in an online context requires this attribution to be in the form of a conspicuous direct link back to the FunDenver web site.
Rationale
Copyright and licensing issues for wiki content can be quite complex, as any particular page may have content contributed by hundreds of users, each with a claim on the copyright of the content. The Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 2.5 (CC-BY-SA) license was chosen to simplify these issues for the following reasons:
- Composite compositions (i.e. collaborative wiki pages) may be treated consistently under the rules of a single license, without the need to study each individual contribution.
- I am not a lawyer, don't want to hire a lawyer, and don't feel comfortable writing my own legalese for a "FunDenver license".
- Use of the CC-BY-SA license gives the FunDenver web site the right to reuse the content in new and interesting ways. An example would perhaps be a portable PDA/cellphone version of the FunDenver content. More importantly, the license allows usage of the content in ways that I or others have not yet conceived of.
- Use of the CC-BY-SA license avoids awkward heavyweight legal arrangements such as copyright assignments, tricky and potentially limiting itemizations of allowed usage by the FunDenver web site and others, and so on.
- The rationale for the attribution designation is because listing every contributor for every page of a potentially massively collaborative work such as a wiki would be very cumbersome.
